Privacy Policy

Short version

Apple Region Switcher does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. Everything stays on your device. There are no analytics, no tracking, no ads, and no remote servers.

1. Data we collect

We collect nothing. The extension does not request, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information.

The only data stored is your operational preferences, which remain entirely on your device:

What Where Why Removable?
Language preference chrome.storage.local Remember your UI language choice Yes — clearing extension data removes it
Favorite regions chrome.storage.local Pin your frequently used regions Yes — un-star any region in the popup
Recent switches chrome.storage.local Show recently used regions for faster access Yes — clears automatically over time
Default region override chrome.storage.local Your preferred default storefront code Yes — can be reset in popup

All of this data is stored using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API, which keeps it on your device and never syncs it to Google or any third party.

2. Permissions explained

The extension requests the following permissions. Each one has a clear, minimal purpose:

tabs

Read the URL of your active tab to detect whether you're on an App Store or Apple Music page, and to extract the current region code and product ID. The extension never reads tab content, history, or any non-Apple URL.

storage

Store your preferences (language, favorites, recents) locally on your device. This data is never sent anywhere.

contextMenus

Add a right-click menu item for quick region switching. No data is accessed through this permission.

host_permissions (apps.apple.com, music.apple.com)

Required to detect Apple Store page types, extract region/product IDs, redirect to a different region storefront, and check product availability. The extension only operates on these two domains — it has zero access to any other website.

3. Network requests

The extension makes network requests only to:

  • apps.apple.com — to check whether a product is available in a specific region storefront
  • music.apple.com — same purpose for Apple Music media

These are the same requests your browser makes when you visit those pages normally. No additional data is appended, and no request results are sent anywhere else.

4. Third-party services

The extension uses no third-party services — no analytics (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.), no crash reporting (Sentry, Bugsnag), no advertising, no social widgets, no CDN beyond Chrome's own extension hosting.

5. Data retention & deletion

  • All local data persists until you uninstall the extension or manually clear extension storage from Chrome settings.
  • Uninstalling the extension removes all stored data immediately.
  • Recent switches auto-expire after 30 entries — older entries are discarded.
  • There is no server-side data to delete because nothing is ever sent to a server.

6. Children's privacy

The extension does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13. Since no data is collected at all, this policy is inherently compliant with COPPA and similar regulations.

7. Changes to this policy

If the extension's data practices change, this page will be updated with a revised effective date. Substantial changes will also be noted in the extension's release notes.
